About Donington Park

Donington Park stands as a testament to British motorsport heritage, holding the distinction of being England's first permanent park circuit and the oldest still in active use. This historic venue, nestled in Leicestershire, transformed from part of the Donington Hall estate into a cornerstone of British racing culture, with its story beginning in 1931 when local motorcycle enthusiast Fred Craner first envisioned racing on the estate's roads.

Circuit Characteristics

The modern Grand Prix layout spans 4.020 kilometers (2.498 miles) and features 12 challenging turns, combining technical complexity with dramatic elevation changes. The circuit's most iconic section, the Craner Curves, offers a thrilling high-speed descent that tests both driver skill and machine capability. The track also features a shorter National Circuit configuration measuring 3.149 kilometers (1.957 miles), making it versatile for various racing categories. The venue boasts impressive facilities, including a 120,000-spectator capacity and modern pit complexes developed under MotorSport Vision's stewardship.

Racing Legacy

Donington Park's rich history encompasses everything from pre-war Grand Prix racing, featuring the legendary "Silver Arrows" of Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union, to modern international competitions. The circuit's most celebrated Formula One moment came in 1993 when Ayrton Senna delivered one of his greatest performances in the European Grand Prix. Today, it hosts prestigious events including the British Touring Car Championship, World Superbike Championship, and British GT Championship, cementing its position as a premier UK motorsport venue.

Modern Development

Under MotorSport Vision's ownership since 2017, Donington Park has undergone significant modernization while preserving its historic character. Recent improvements include new spectator facilities, upgraded paddock areas, and the addition of the Garage 39 restaurant. The circuit continues to evolve, balancing its historic significance with modern motorsport requirements. Beyond racing, the venue has become a cultural landmark, hosting major events like the Download Festival and serving as a hub for various motorsport activities throughout the year.
