About Mugello

The Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello, nestled in the rolling hills of Tuscany, Italy, is a world-class racing facility owned by Ferrari since 1988. This 5.245-kilometer (3.259-mile) circuit, featuring 15 challenging turns and a 1.141-kilometer straight, represents a perfect blend of speed, technical challenge, and natural beauty. The venue boasts a capacity of 50,000 spectators and has become one of Italy's most prestigious motorsport destinations.

Technical Characteristics

The circuit is renowned for its challenging layout that follows the natural contours of the Tuscan landscape. Its combination of high-speed straights and technical corners makes it particularly demanding for both drivers and machines. The track is notable for its sequence of fast, flowing corners and significant elevation changes throughout the lap. Mugello's layout has remained largely unchanged since its inauguration in 1974, maintaining its pure racing character while meeting modern safety standards.

Racing Heritage

While the current permanent circuit opened in 1974, Mugello's racing history dates back to 1914, when races were held on public roads through the Tuscan countryside. The modern circuit has hosted numerous prestigious events, including the Italian Motorcycle Grand Prix, which has become its signature event. In 2020, Mugello reached a milestone by hosting its first Formula One race, the Tuscan Grand Prix, which coincided with Ferrari's 1000th Grand Prix. The track is also regularly used by Ferrari for Formula One testing.

Environmental Leadership

Mugello has distinguished itself as a pioneer in environmental sustainability among racing circuits. In 2021, it was ranked as the world's most sustainable racetrack, boasting numerous environmental certifications including the FIA's 3-star Environmental Accreditation. The circuit demonstrates its commitment to sustainability through various initiatives, including 100% renewable energy usage, with 25% produced on-site through photovoltaic systems, LED lighting implementation, and an advanced rainwater recovery system. This commitment to environmental stewardship sets a new standard for motorsport facilities worldwide.
