Queensland Raceway stands as one of Australia's most distinctive motor racing venues. Located in Willowbank, Ipswich, approximately 50 kilometers west of Brisbane, this circuit opened in 1999 and quickly became a staple in Australian motorsport. Locals and racing enthusiasts know it as "The Paperclip" due to its simple yet challenging layout. The circuit began operations in 1999 under Motorsport Queensland's management. In 2004, John Tetley took ownership and ran the facility for 17 years until October 2021, when businessman and motorsport enthusiast Tony Quinn purchased the track. The raceway forms part of the larger Ipswich Motorsport Precinct, which includes Willowbank Raceway drag strip, a kart track, and other motorsport facilities. Its location next to RAAF Base Amberley means the circuit operates without strict noise restrictions, a significant advantage for a motorsport venue.

Track Design and Layout

Tony Slattery designed Queensland Raceway with input from motorsport authorities and CAMS circuit expert Professor Rod Troutbeck. The design follows a simple principle: create long straights leading into tight corners to produce excellent overtaking opportunities. The track runs clockwise and features six distinct turns, each with unique characteristics. This FIA Grade 3 circuit combines technical challenges with high-speed sections, making it a favorite testing ground for teams and drivers.

Since Tony Quinn's acquisition in 2021, the facility has undergone improvements including upgraded pit facilities and new ripple strips on corner exits.
