βΉοΈ About Chinese GP
The Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix takes place at the impressive Shanghai International Circuit in China. This 5.451 km track features 16 challenging turns and hosts one of F1's most anticipated races. The circuit design draws inspiration from the Chinese character "Shang," meaning "above" or "ascend," which is the first character in Shanghai's name. The layout includes a demanding 270-degree right-hand corner at Turns 1 and 2, plus one of F1's longest straights at 1.2 km between Turns 13 and 14.
The 2025 Chinese GP saw Oscar Piastri claim pole position and victory for McLaren-Mercedes, followed by teammate Lando Norris and Mercedes driver George Russell. The race covers 56 laps for a total distance of 305.066 km and attracted 220,000 spectators. The Shanghai International Circuit poses unique technical challenges for teams, with its combination of slow corners and high-speed sections requiring balanced aerodynamic setups.
The Shanghai track has a rich history in F1. The first Chinese Grand Prix happened in 2004, with Rubens Barrichello taking victory for Ferrari. The circuit has witnessed many memorable moments, including Michael Schumacher's final F1 win in 2006 and the 1000th Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2019. After a pause from 2020 to 2023 due to COVID-19, the Chinese GP returned to the F1 calendar with a contract extending to 2030.
Chinese racing fans enjoy watching the action from several vantage points, including Grandstand A along the start/finish straight and Grandstand H at the end of the longest straight, where drivers attempt overtaking maneuvers. The circuit stands as one of the most expensive F1 facilities ever built, constructed on wetlands by 3,000 workers in just 18 months. Lewis Hamilton holds the record for most wins at the Chinese GP with six victories. The presence of Zhou Guanyu, the first Chinese driver to race in his home Grand Prix, has significantly increased local interest in F1. This race promises spectacular racing action as drivers navigate the technical challenges of this distinctive Shanghai circuit.
