About Las Vegas GP

The Las Vegas GP represents Formula 1's return to Nevada, bringing high-speed racing to the Streets Of Las Vegas. This f1 event features a spectacular night race on a street circuit that runs through the city's famous Strip, passing landmarks such as Caesars Palace, the Bellagio, and the Venetian. The 2026 edition arrives during a transformative year for Formula 1, introducing a new generation of race cars with significant technical changes.

The Las Vegas Strip Circuit

The Streets Of Las Vegas provide the setting for this temporary circuit, which measures 3.853 miles (6.201 kilometers) in length. Drivers complete 50 laps across 17 turns, covering a total race distance of 309.958 km (192.599 miles). The circuit features a prominent 1.2-mile straight along Las Vegas Boulevard where cars can reach top speeds up to 215 mph (342 km/h).

The layout combines long straights with fast corners and technical chicanes. Carsten Tilke designed the circuit, and Formula 1 has built permanent pit and paddock facilities to support the event. The circuit configuration produces average speeds comparable to Monza, creating conditions favorable for overtaking.

2026 Technical Regulations

The 2026 Las Vegas GP showcases a complete overhaul of f1 technical regulations. The new cars are smaller, lighter, and more agile than their predecessors. The wheelbase decreases by 200 mm to 3,400 mm, while overall width reduces by 100 mm to 1,900 mm. Minimum weight drops by 30 kg to 770 kg.

Active Aerodynamics

The 2026 regulations eliminate the traditional Drag Reduction System (DRS) and introduce active aerodynamics. Cars feature adjustable front and rear wings that drivers can modify between two modes. "Straight Mode" reduces drag for higher speeds on straights, while "Corner Mode" increases downforce for better grip through turns. Overall downforce decreases by 15-30%, and drag reduces by up to 40% compared to previous regulations.

An "Overtake Mode" provides attacking drivers within one second of a competitor with additional electrical power to assist passing maneuvers.

Power Units

The 2026 power units retain the 1.6-liter V6 turbo hybrid configuration but feature a revised energy recovery system. The MGU-H (Motor Generator Unit – Heat) has been removed, while the MGU-K (Motor Generator Unit – Kinetic) output increases significantly. The regulations aim for a near 50-50 split between internal combustion and electrical power delivery.

Tires

Tire dimensions change for 2026, with front tires narrowed by 25 mm and rear tires by 30 mm. The wheels remain at 18 inches in diameter.

Teams and Drivers

The 2026 f1 season features notable changes to the grid. Audi enters as a works team after acquiring Sauber, while Cadillac debuts using Ferrari power units. Honda partners exclusively with Aston Martin, and Ford collaborates with Red Bull Powertrains. Alpine switches from Renault to Mercedes power units after Renault exits as an engine supplier.

Lando Norris enters the Las Vegas GP as the reigning World Drivers' Champion, with McLaren-Mercedes holding the World Constructors' Championship title.

Race Characteristics

The Las Vegas GP runs as a night race, utilizing the city's bright lights and evening atmosphere. The November temperatures in Las Vegas present specific challenges for tire management, as cooler conditions can reduce tire grip. The street circuit layout features multiple overtaking zones, particularly along the extended straight sections.

The combination of high speeds, varied corner types, and the new 2026 technical regulations creates unique racing dynamics. The reduced downforce and active aerodynamics should enable closer racing between competitors.

Event Background

Formula 1 first visited Las Vegas in 1981 and 1982 for the Caesars Palace Grand Prix, held on a temporary circuit in a hotel parking lot. Alan Jones won in 1981, and Michele Alboreto took victory in 1982. The event was discontinued after two years due to limited sustained interest.

F1 returned to Las Vegas in 2023 with the new Las Vegas Strip Circuit, marking a fresh chapter for the championship in Nevada. The current circuit layout represents a different approach compared to the original Caesars Palace venue.

What Makes This Event Special

The Streets Of Las Vegas provide a unique setting for f1 racing. The combination of a street circuit, night racing, and the city's entertainment environment creates a distinctive atmosphere. The circuit's high average speeds and multiple passing opportunities offer the potential for close racing and strategic variation.

The 2026 edition holds additional significance as the first Las Vegas GP to feature the new generation of Formula 1 cars. Fans will see how the revised technical regulations perform on this high-speed street circuit. The blend of challenging circuit characteristics and revolutionary car design promises compelling racing action throughout the event.
