βΉοΈ About Laguna I
The Laguna I features top Indylights competition at the iconic WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. This premier development series showcases talented drivers racing Dallara IL-15 chassis powered by 450-horsepower Mazda-AER turbocharged engines with an additional 50-horsepower push-to-pass system.
Laguna Seca's 2.238-mile circuit presents unique challenges across its 11 turns, including the famous Corkscrew with its dramatic 59-foot elevation drop. Drivers must master this technical section while reaching speeds that highlight both car performance and racing skill.
The Laguna I consists of two races, giving fans double the racing action. Competitors battle for crucial points as they aim to follow in the footsteps of Indylights graduates like Josef Newgarden, Scott Dixon, and Helio Castroneves who advanced to IndyCar success.
Laguna Seca's rich racing history dates back to 1957, with the track hosting Indylights events that have launched many professional careers. Past winners include Bryan Herta, Tony Kanaan, and Rinus VeeKay, who all demonstrated exceptional skill on this challenging circuit.
Fans can watch these future racing stars compete in identical Firestone-tired cars weighing just 1,400 pounds, creating close, competitive racing. The Laguna I offers a perfect display of driver talent as they navigate the circuit's significant 180-foot elevation changes and technical sections.
This Indylights event provides excellent racing with clear views from multiple spectator areas around Laguna Seca. The races broadcast on Peacock and the INDYCAR Radio Network bring all the action to fans unable to attend in person. The Laguna I represents an important step for drivers climbing the American open-wheel racing ladder.
