โน๏ธ About Laguna I
The Indy Lights Grand Prix of Monterey at Laguna Seca offers race fans a premium motorsport experience in the beautiful Monterey region. This Laguna I event features the Indy NXT by Firestone series on the challenging 2.238-mile WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca circuit. Drivers will complete 35 laps totaling 78.33 miles across 11 technical turns that test their skills and precision.
The Laguna I indylights competition showcases 20 talented drivers from teams like Andretti Global and HMD Motorsports. Recent testing at Laguna Seca saw Callum Hedge and Christian Hauger post the fastest times, setting the stage for close racing. Competitors will use an extra set of soft tires for this event, adding a strategic element to their race planning.
Laguna Seca's famous Corkscrew turn defines this track. This blind left-right chicane drops six stories in just 450 feet, creating one of racing's most difficult challenges. The circuit features 180 feet of elevation changes throughout the lap, with limited runoff areas that punish driving errors.
Built in 1957 for $1.5 million to replace the dangerous Pebble Beach Road Races, Laguna Seca sits on former US Army land. The name means "dry lake" in Spanish, reflecting the original lake bed around which the track was constructed. Its 1989 redesign added the technical infield section drivers face today.
The Laguna I indylights race demands precise driving and constant adjustments to braking and throttle inputs due to the track's elevation shifts. High-performance Indy NXT cars perform well on this technical layout where accurate cornering makes the difference between winning and losing. This competition promises close racing action on one of America's most famous and picturesque racing circuits.
