ITM Taupō Super 440

The ITM Taupō Super 440 brings elite v8supercars racing to Taupō International Motorsport Park in New Zealand. This premier motorsport event features high-performance Ford Mustang GT and Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 race cars competing on New Zealand's only FIA Grade 2 rated circuit.

The ITM Taupō Super 440 showcases the 3.32 km International Circuit configuration with 14 challenging turns. Fans enjoy excellent viewing points throughout the venue, allowing close observation of the cars reaching speeds of approximately 300 km/h.

The race format includes three separate contests: one shorter race without pit stops and two longer races requiring tire changes and refueling. The previous ITM Taupō Super 440 attracted 67,411 spectators, demonstrating the strong fan base for v8supercars in New Zealand.

Twenty-four skilled drivers from eleven teams compete in technically advanced vehicles. These Gen3 Supercars produce approximately 600 horsepower from their V8 engines. Each car weighs 1335 kg and carries up to 135 liters of fuel, creating a perfect balance of power and handling.

The circuit began as a simple dirt track in 1959 and evolved into an international-standard facility. Tony Quinn now owns the track, which features two separate pit areas, a three-story pit lane complex, and various support facilities.

The ITM Taupō Super 440 represents an important part of the Repco Supercars Championship, which began as the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1960. The cars use identical space frame chassis to ensure fair competition, with close racing a hallmark of the series.
