ℹ️ About Rally Kenya

Rally Kenya returns to the FIA World Rally Championship calendar as one of the most demanding competitions in the series. This legendary event takes place in Naivasha and the surrounding areas of the Great Rift Valley, where drivers face approximately 350 competitive kilometers across 20 special stages. The rally tests both driver skill and mechanical reliability on some of the most challenging terrain in motorsport.

The Circuit and Stages

The rally bases itself in Naivasha, with competitive stages spread throughout the Rift Valley region. Crews compete on iconic stages including Camp Moran, Loldia, Kedong, Sleeping Warrior, Elementaita, Soysambu, and Hell's Gate National Park. Hell's Gate hosts the Power Stage, providing a final test for competitors.

The competition begins with a 5-kilometer shakedown in Nawisa. Opening stages run through Camp Moran and Mzabibu near Naivasha. The longest day features eight stages with double runs of Loldia, Kengen Geothermal, Kedong and Camp Moran, covering 136.55 competitive kilometers. Six stages follow across Soysambu, Elementaita, and Sleeping Warrior, each run twice for 123 kilometers. The final day includes four stages, with Oserengoni and Hell's Gate closing the competition.

The Challenge of Safari Rally

The Safari Rally Kenya stands out as one of the most demanding events on the WRC calendar. Rocky and rutted tracks push cars to their limits. Teams reinforce their vehicles and adjust suspension settings to handle the conditions. Higher ride heights and softer suspension setups help crews manage the rough terrain and deep ruts.

Weather conditions can change rapidly, transforming dry and dusty trails into mud-filled challenges. Mechanical survival matters as much as outright speed. Competitors must balance pace with preservation to reach the finish.

Participants and Competition

Rally Kenya attracts the world's best rally drivers across multiple categories. The event features WRC, WRC2, and WRC3 classes. Manufacturer teams like Toyota, Hyundai, and M-Sport Ford send their entries to compete. Oliver Solberg returns to the top tier for a full-time campaign in this edition.

A Rich Heritage

The Safari Rally began in 1953 as the East African Coronation Safari, celebrating Queen Elizabeth II's coronation. The event joined the WRC calendar in 1973 and remained part of the championship until 2002. After a long absence, the rally returned to the WRC in 2021.

The event initially ran through Kenya, Uganda, and Tanganyika (Tanzania) before being known as the East African Safari Rally until 1974. Legendary drivers have competed here over the decades, including Shekhar Mehta, who holds the record for most Safari Rally wins. Other notable competitors include Joginder Singh, Björn Waldegård, Juha Kankkunen, Tommi Mäkinen and Colin McRae.

What Makes Safari Rally Kenya Special

Safari Rally Kenya combines challenging terrain, stunning landscapes, and unique wildlife encounters. Elephants, giraffes, and zebras near the stages create a distinctly Kenyan experience. This combination of motorsport and natural beauty sets the event apart from other rallies in the championship.

The rally has evolved from its marathon origins to fit the modern WRC format while maintaining its reputation as a true test of endurance. Drivers and teams must prepare carefully for conditions unlike any other event in the series.

This edition promises intense competition as teams and drivers tackle one of motorsport's most storied events. The combination of technical demands, unpredictable conditions, and the legacy of the Safari Rally creates compelling racing action for fans following the WRC season.
