About Formula E

Launched in 2014, Formula E is the world's premier all-electric racing series. Conceived by FIA President Jean Todt and developed by Alejandro Agag, the championship was designed to showcase electric vehicle technology through city-based racing events. Since 2020, it has held official FIA World Championship status.

Racing Format

Formula E features unique racing elements like Attack Mode, where drivers gain temporary power boosts by driving through designated zones. Races typically take place on temporary street circuits in major city centers, though the series has begun incorporating some traditional racing venues. Each e-Prix combines high-speed competition with energy management strategy.

Technical Innovation

The series has seen rapid technological advancement through three generations of cars. The current Gen3 car, introduced in 2022-23, can reach speeds up to 322 km/h (200 mph) and features both front and rear regenerative braking systems capable of recovering up to 600kW of energy. The cars represent the fastest regulated electric racing machines in the world.

Environmental Focus

As a pioneer in sustainable motorsport, Formula E aims to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles and promote environmental awareness. The championship has committed to various sustainability initiatives and serves as a testing ground for electric vehicle technology that can eventually benefit consumer cars.

Global Impact

The series has attracted major automotive manufacturers and has grown to include races across multiple continents. With innovative race formats, city-center venues, and a focus on fan engagement, Formula E has established itself as a significant force in international motorsport while promoting sustainable racing technology.

Future Development

Formula E continues to evolve, with plans for Gen4 cars in development for 2026. The series regularly introduces new technological features and race formats, maintaining its position at the forefront of electric racing innovation and sustainable motorsport.
