Formula E Calendar

Launched in 2014, Formula E is the world's premier all-electric racing series and holds official FIA World Championship status. The 2025-26 season marks the twelfth edition of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and the final season for the Gen3 Evo car before Gen4 regulations arrive in 2026-27. The championship features three titles: the Drivers' World Championship, the Teams' World Championship, and the Manufacturers' Championship. Points are awarded using the standard FIA system to the top ten finishers, with additional points available for pole position (3 points) and fastest lap (1 point, if finishing in the top ten).

Race Weekend Structure

Formula E race weekends are condensed into a single day, typically Saturday or Sunday, maximizing on-track action. A standard race day includes two free practice sessions, qualifying, and the e-Prix itself. Double-header weekends feature an additional practice session on the second race day. The 2025-26 calendar is the longest in series history with 18 rounds across 12 weekends, running from December 2025 to August 2026. Double-headers are scheduled for Jeddah, Berlin, Monaco, Shanghai, Tokyo, and the London finale.

Qualifying Format

Qualifying consists of two stages. The 22-car field is divided into two groups of 11 based on championship standings, with each group having a 10-minute session at 300kW power. The top four from each group advance to the Duels stage, where drivers compete in head-to-head, bracket-style knockout battles (quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final). During Duels, power increases to 350kW and all-wheel drive is fully unlocked. The final Duel winner secures pole position and earns 3 championship points.

Racing Features

Races, known as e-Prix, typically take place on temporary city-center street circuits, though the series increasingly incorporates traditional venues like the Shanghai International Circuit and Madrid's Circuito del Jarama. Two strategic elements define Formula E racing. Attack Mode provides drivers with an extra 50kW of power (350kW total) and unlocks AWD by driving through a designated Activation Zone off the racing line. Drivers typically have 8 minutes of Attack Mode to deploy strategically. Pit Boost, introduced in Season 11, is a mandatory feature in one race of each double-header weekend, providing a 10% energy increase (3.85kWh) through a 30-second, 600kW boost in the pit lane.

Gen3 Evo Technology

The 2025-26 season utilizes the Gen3 Evo car, an upgraded version of the Gen3. This machine accelerates from 0-60mph in 1.82 seconds, making it the quickest accelerating FIA single-seater race car. It reaches top speeds of 322 km/h (200 mph) with maximum power output of 350kW (469 hp) in qualifying and Attack Mode, and 300kW (402 hp) in race mode. Formula E became the first electric single-seater series to feature all-wheel drive, available during qualifying duels, race starts, and Attack Mode. The cars generate nearly 50% of race energy through 600kW regenerative braking capacity, with regeneration on both front (up to 250kW) and rear (up to 350kW) axles.

Current Season Competition

The 2025-26 season features 10 teams and 20 drivers, including reigning world champion Oliver Rowland (Nissan), former champions Pascal Wehrlein (Porsche), Jean-Éric Vergne (Citroën), António Félix da Costa (Jaguar TCS Racing), and Lucas Di Grassi (Lola Yamaha ABT). Notable entries include Citroën Racing returning to Formula E and new full-time drivers Felipe Drugovich, Joel Eriksson, and Josep Maria Martí. Formula E continues to serve as a testing ground for electric vehicle technology while delivering competitive racing on iconic circuits worldwide.
