About MotoGP

Founded in 1949, Grand Prix motorcycle racing represents the highest class of two-wheeled motorsport. The championship evolved from multiple displacement classes to today's three-tier structure: MotoGP, Moto2, and Moto3, plus the electric MotoE class. In 2002, the premier class was rebranded as MotoGP, transitioning from 500cc two-strokes to more powerful four-stroke engines.

Technical Excellence

MotoGP bikes are purpose-built racing machines capable of exceeding 360 km/h. These prototypes feature sophisticated electronics, advanced aerodynamics, and powerful engines producing over 290 horsepower. Unlike production-based racing series, these motorcycles are not available to the public and cannot be ridden on public roads.

Racing Format

The championship features race weekends that include practice sessions, qualifying, sprint races, and the main Grand Prix. Races typically last 45 minutes and require intense physical endurance from riders who must manage both their machines and tires. The 2023 season introduced sprint races, adding shorter Saturday contests to complement Sunday's main events.

Historic Champions

The sport has produced legendary champions like Giacomo Agostini (15 titles), Valentino Rossi (9 titles), and Marc Mรกrquez (6 titles). These riders have helped shape the sport's evolution and contributed to its global popularity through their exceptional skill and charismatic personalities.

Global Presence

MotoGP races are held worldwide on purpose-built circuits and modified road courses, attracting massive crowds and global television audiences. The championship visits diverse venues across multiple continents, making it a truly international spectacle.

Modern Era

Recent years have seen significant technological advancements, including improved safety features, enhanced aerodynamics, and more sustainable practices. The 2024 acquisition by Liberty Media, which also owns Formula One, marks a new chapter in the sport's development.
