About Loutraki

Loutraki, Greece does not have a traditional motor racing circuit. The region features two distinct racing facilities that serve different athletic disciplines. The Loutraki Municipal Stadium hosts ultramarathon events on its athletics track. The UCI Gran Fondo Greece uses public roads around Loutraki for competitive cycling. Both facilities demonstrate how this coastal town supports endurance sports through quality infrastructure and professional event organization.

Loutraki Municipal Stadium Athletics Track

The Loutraki Municipal Stadium contains a standard 400-meter athletics track. The track features a soft surface divided into six lanes. Athletes can use facilities for jumping, throwing, and running events. The track sits on completely flat terrain with zero elevation gain. This flat profile reduces physical strain on runners and creates optimal conditions for record attempts. The stadium gained recognition as the home of the International Ultramarathon Festival. Greece hosted its first major 24-hour and 48-hour race here in 2005. The festival moved to the old Elliniko airport in Athens in 2007, where athletes set multiple world and national records. The event returned to Loutraki in 2024. Organizers plan to hold the 20th edition in 2025. The course uses the 400-meter stadium loop repeatedly. This design allows officials to supervise all athletes constantly. Electronic chip timing records every lap automatically. Aid stations provide water, electrolytes, snacks, and warm food throughout the race. The International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) has certified this course. The event holds IAU Label Race status. All recorded distances enter the DUV global ultrarunning database. The festival supports cancer immunotherapy research. Elite international ultrarunners compete regularly at this event. Wolfgang Schwerk achieved a remarkable performance of 420 kilometers in 48 hours at this venue.

UCI Gran Fondo Greece Road Cycling Route

The UCI Gran Fondo Greece uses public roads, not a closed circuit. The main race covers 112 kilometers. Both the start and finish line are located in Loutraki, typically in front of the Club Hotel Casino Loutraki. The route begins with approximately 40 kilometers of flat roads along the Saronic Gulf coastline toward Athens. Cyclists then turn inland and face a climb divided into two sections. The maximum elevation reaches 300 meters above sea level. The average gradient measures 3.1 percent. A downhill section follows, returning riders to the Saronic Gulf. Cyclists use the same coastal road to reach the finish. A small climb appears in the final 10 kilometers. The total elevation gain for the full course measures 889 meters. All roads feature smooth, high-quality asphalt. The Municipality of Loutraki and KYVERNITIS Travel organize this event. The Hellenic Cycling Federation provides technical support. The race typically occurs in early November. The event joined the UCI Gran Fondo World Series and serves as a qualifier for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships. Participants enjoy views of the Peloponnese coastline and the Corinth Canal. Organizers mark and close the route during the race. Professional timing systems track all riders. Feed zones, technical service, and medical assistance operate throughout the course. The race accepts Elite, U23, Juniors, Masters, and Sportive athletes. Both licensed and unlicensed riders can participate. The UCI awards medals to the top 25 percent in each age category. Age-category winners receive UCI Gran Fondo World Series jerseys. Loutraki offers thermal springs, casino facilities, and proximity to archaeological sites including the Corinth Canal, ancient Corinth, and the Heraion of Perachora.
