βΉοΈ About Round 1 & 2
The Pirelli GT4 America Series opens its 2025 season at Sonoma Raceway in California. Round 1 & 2 bring production-based sports car racing to this classic circuit located one hour north of San Francisco in California's wine country. The provisional entry list features 31 cars competing across three classes: Silver, Pro-Am, and Am.
Race Format and Championship Structure
The weekend features two separate races, giving teams multiple opportunities to score points early in the season. These opening rounds contribute to the new Global GT4 Manufacturers Championship, which launches in 2025. Six of the eight global manufacturers will compete at Sonoma, including Aston Martin, BMW, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG, Porsche, and Toyota.
The Circuit
Sonoma Raceway stretches 2.52 miles across 1,600 acres of land. The 12-turn configuration includes over 160 feet of elevation change throughout each lap. The asphalt surface holds an FIA Grade 2 rating with a seating capacity of 44,000. The circuit offers multiple configurations, including a NASCAR layout that uses "the Chute," an 890-foot high-speed section bypassing turns five and six. The Carousel, a long banked turn, stands as one of the circuit's most distinctive features.
Teams and Drivers
Notable teams on the grid include Auto Technic Racing, Random Vandals Racing, BimmerWorld, Fast Track Racing, Heart of Racing Team, JMF Motorsports, and Blackdog Racing. The driver roster features Zac Anderson, Colin Garrett, Kenton Koch, Kevin Boehm, James Clay, Charlie Postins, Matheus Leist, Michael Auriemma, Tony Gaples, and Michael Cooper. Five women are expected to compete: Hannah Grisham, Hannah Greenemeier, Zoe Barry, Aurora Straus, and Laura Hayes.
Manufacturer Presence
BMW leads the entry with 11 M4 GT4s on the grid, including several new-for-2025 M4 GT4 EVOs. Aston Martin fields five Vantage AMR GT4s. McLaren has grown its lineup with additional teams joining their program for the new season.
GT4 Technical Specifications
GT4 cars are production-based sports cars adapted for international endurance and sprint racing. These machines balance performance with accessibility, creating close competition across the field. The Global GT4 Manufacturers Championship adds a new dimension to the series, tracking constructor performance across multiple global series.
Track History
Sonoma Raceway opened in 1968 under the name Sears Point Raceway. The NASCAR Cup Series made its debut at the track in 1989. The SRO Motorsports Group established the GT4 America Series in 2017, providing a dedicated platform for GT4 competition in North America.
Fan Experience
Sonoma Raceway provides an open paddock atmosphere where fans can observe teams preparing their cars. Autograph sessions, fan zones, and local vendors create an accessible environment for spectators. MAVTV broadcasts the races, with additional coverage available on the GTWorld YouTube channel and SRO Motorsports Twitch. The location in California's wine country combines motorsports with regional attractions.
What Makes This Event Notable
Round 1 & 2 at Sonoma Raceway mark the first points-paying races of the 2025 GT4 America season. The introduction of the Global GT4 Manufacturers Championship adds international significance to these opening rounds. The diverse manufacturer presence and competitive driver lineup promise close racing across all three classes. A new sealant applied to the track surface may influence grip levels and racing strategy throughout the weekend.
