About Texas
The WÜRTH 400 presented by LIQUI MOLY brings NASCAR Cup Series racing back to Texas Motor Speedway. This race represents the 46th Cup Series competition at the Fort Worth facility since the venue opened in 1997. The event features 267 laps covering a total distance of 400.5 miles on the 1.5-mile quad-oval circuit.
Texas Motor Speedway Circuit Details
Texas Motor Speedway, known as "The Great American Speedway," is a 1.5-mile quad-oval intermediate track located in Fort Worth, Texas. The circuit features varied banking angles across its layout. Turns 1 and 2 have 20 degrees of banking, while Turns 3 and 4 are banked at 24 degrees. The straightaways include 5 degrees of banking. The asphalt racing surface, repaved in 2017, spans 80 feet in width.
The facility includes lighting for night racing and displays "Big Hoss," the world's largest HD video screen at a sports facility. Beyond the main oval, the complex houses an infield road course, a 0.200-mile paved short track, and a 0.400-mile dirt track. The speedway accommodates 75,000 spectators.
NASCAR Cup Series Participants
The NASCAR Cup Series fields between 36 and 40 cars for each race. A minimum of 36 chartered entries receive guaranteed starting positions. If more than 40 cars attempt to qualify, the remaining spots go to the fastest non-chartered entries. Three primary manufacturers compete in the series: Chevrolet, Ford, and Toyota.
Next Gen Race Cars
The NASCAR Cup Series uses Next Gen cars for competition. These vehicles feature pushrod V-8 engines with a 358 cubic inch displacement limit. The engines produce approximately 670 horsepower at intermediate ovals like Texas Motor Speedway. The cars use a five-speed sequential shift transmission with reverse capability.
Technical Specifications
The Next Gen car includes a composite, symmetrical body built for durability and simpler repairs. The design incorporates independent rear suspension, rack and pinion steering, and larger brakes. The vehicles run on 18-inch forged aluminum wheels with a single lug-nut design. Goodyear Eagle Speedway Radials provide the tires, with Goodyear serving as the exclusive tire supplier.
Aerodynamic features include a stepped front splitter, hood vents, redesigned side skirts, a full underbody, and a rear diffuser. A 4-inch rear spoiler completes the aerodynamic package. Texas Motor Speedway applies PJ1 traction compound to the track surface to create multiple racing grooves and improve grip.
Race Weekend Schedule
The Texas Motor Speedway race weekend includes multiple NASCAR series competitions. The NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series runs the SpeedyCash.com 250. The NASCAR Xfinity Series competes in the Andy's Frozen Custard 340. These supporting races provide additional on-track action throughout the weekend.
