ℹ️ About San Diego

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series returns to Southern California with a historic race at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego. This nascar-truck event marks the first time NASCAR has competed on an active military base. The race takes place on the Coronado Street Course, a 3.4-mile circuit that winds through the naval installation and represents the longest track on the NASCAR schedule for 2026.

The Coronado Street Course

The Coronado Street Course spans 3.4 miles and features 16 turns on an asphalt surface. The track layout utilizes the streets and tarmac of Naval Base Coronado. Drivers navigate past aircraft carriers and military aircraft during the race. iRacing assisted in the design of the circuit, which aims to minimize disruption to base operations.

Notable Turns and Landmarks

The Ellyson Start/Finish Line honors Commander Theodore Ellyson, who was Naval Aviator Number One. Turn 5, known as Carrier Corner, sits between the docking location of two aircraft carriers. The Coronado Chicane at Turn 8 presents a series of challenging corners. Turn 14, called Runway Road, runs near the north end of Runway 18/36 at Halsey Field.

Race Format and Broadcast

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race serves as part of the NASCAR San Diego Weekend. This three-day event also includes the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series. FOX Sports provides television coverage of the nascar-truck race. The event coincides with the 250th anniversary of the United States Navy.

Driver Lineup

Jimmie Johnson makes his return to the Craftsman Truck Series at Naval Base Coronado. Johnson drives the No. 1 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro for Tricon Garage. This appearance marks his first Truck Series start since 2008. Additional drivers and teams compete throughout the weekend.

Historic Significance

This San Diego race represents multiple firsts for NASCAR. The event is the first NASCAR race held on an active military base. The Coronado Street Course becomes only the second street circuit in NASCAR's modern era. The race replaces the Chicago Street Race on the schedule. Naval Base Coronado previously hosted the Global MX-5 Cup in 2012 and 2013, along with Stadium Super Trucks in 2014.

Naval Base Coronado

Naval Base Coronado consists of eight Navy installations in the San Diego area. The base is recognized as the birthplace of naval aviation. The facility continues to operate as an active military installation during the race weekend. Access to the Truck Series race is exclusive to U.S. Navy members stationed at Naval Base Coronado and a limited number of Coronado residents.

Event Experience

NASCAR expects tens of thousands of fans to attend the San Diego weekend. The event features military displays that honor the Navy's history and service. Temporary suites and facilities accommodate spectators. The race weekend celebrates both motorsports and military heritage. This combination of NASCAR racing and naval tradition creates a unique atmosphere at Naval Base Coronado.

The nascar-truck race at Naval Base Coronado offers fans a distinctive racing experience. The 3.4-mile circuit challenges drivers with technical turns and high-speed sections. The military setting adds historical context to the competition. San Diego hosts NASCAR racing in a venue unlike any other on the circuit.
