ℹ️ About Round 5

Round 5 of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup takes place at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium as a support race for the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix. This race brings together over 30 drivers who compete in identical Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars across the longest track on the current Formula 1 calendar. The event features both practice and qualifying sessions before the main race.

Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps Overview

Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps sits approximately 8 kilometers southeast of Spa in the Wallonia region of Belgium. The circuit measures 7.004 kilometers in length and contains 19 turns. The track features an elevation change that exceeds 100 meters, which creates a challenging environment for drivers and teams.

The circuit includes several notable corners such as Eau Rouge/Raidillon, Les Combes, and La Source. Drivers reach speeds of nearly 270 km/h on the Kemmel Straight. The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race cars complete laps in approximately 2 minutes and 21 seconds. Spa-Francorchamps has hosted Formula 1 races since the World Championship began in 1950.

Weather and Track Characteristics

The circuit is known for unpredictable and changeable weather conditions. Rain can affect one section of the track while other areas remain dry. The combination of fast straights and sweeping corners tests both driver skill and car setup. The original circuit was designed in 1920 and first used for a Grand Prix in 1925.

Porsche Supercup Participants

The 2025 grid features a mix of returning champions, international talent, and promising rookies. Countries represented include the Netherlands, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, South Africa, Australia, the UK, Spain, and Israel. Prestigious teams competing include BWT Lechner Racing, GP Elite, Proton Huber Competition, Dinamic Motorsport, Martinet by Almeras, and Schumacher CLRT.

Notable Drivers

Robert de Haan and Marvin Klein drive for BWT Lechner Racing. Proton Huber Competition fields Theo Oeverhaus, Jaap van Lagen, Tomas de Backer, and Gustav Burton. Dinamic Motorsport's lineup includes Francesco Braschi, Aldo Festante, and Pietro Delli Guanti. Alessandro Ghiretti and Flynt Schuring represent Schumacher CLRT. Additional drivers include Ariel Levi and Samer Shahin.

The rookie class for the 2025 season includes Dirk Schouten, Flynt Schuring, and Janne Stiak. These newcomers compete alongside experienced drivers across the championship.

Technical Specifications

All drivers compete in identical Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, Type 992 generation. The engine produces 510 bhp, which represents a slight increase over the previous Type 991 II. The series follows 2025 regulations approved by the DMSB and the FIA.

Car Regulations

The cars feature a front splitter, rear wing, and side skirts. Rear diffusers, vortex generators, and undertrays are prohibited. Steel brake discs have a maximum diameter of 380 mm. The regulations define sporting and technical principles, classifications, and rules that all teams must follow.

What Makes This Event Notable

Round 5 at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps represents one of the most demanding races on the Porsche Supercup calendar. The length of the circuit and its elevation changes create unique challenges. The track's fast nature allows drivers to showcase their abilities in high-speed sections.

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup awards approximately €700,000 in prize money per season. This makes the championship one of the most competitive one-make series in motorsport. The race format includes 11 or 12 laps, which requires drivers to maintain consistent pace and tire management.

Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps has undergone several changes since its original design. A major redevelopment in 1979 cut the track's length in half from its original configuration. The modern layout maintains the character of the original while meeting current safety standards. The combination of heritage, technical challenge, and competitive racing makes this round a significant event in the 2025 Porsche Supercup season.
