About Jeddah E-Prix (Round 5)

The Jeddah E-Prix (Round 5) brought Formula E racing to the stunning Jeddah Corniche Circuit, a street circuit positioned along the Red Sea in Jeddah. This race represented the fifth round of the 2025-26 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and showcased the series' only night racing format. António Félix da Costa of Jaguar TCS Racing claimed victory, with Sébastien Buemi from Envision Racing finishing second and Oliver Rowland of Nissan taking third place. The race covered 30 laps across a total distance of 90.002 km.

Race Results and Performance

Edoardo Mortara from Mahindra Racing secured pole position with a qualifying time of 1:15.116. Jake Dennis of Andretti-Porsche set the fastest lap during the race at 1:15.653. The competitive field demonstrated the close racing that Formula E delivers on street circuits. Da Costa's win added to Jaguar TCS Racing's strong season performance.

Jeddah Corniche Circuit Layout

The Jeddah Corniche Circuit uses a modified 3-kilometer layout specifically configured for Formula E racing. The track measures 3.001 km in length and features 19 high-speed corners. The layout incorporates sections of the Formula 1 configuration, using the start/finish straight and the opening three turns before diverting through a tighter technical section.

Four additional chicanes were added to the Formula E layout. These chicanes create strong braking zones and energy regeneration opportunities, which are crucial for the electric race cars. The Attack Zone sits at Turn 13, providing a strategic element where drivers can activate additional power. The circuit demands precise driving through its combination of high-speed sections and technical corners.

GEN3 Evo Technology

The race featured the GEN3 Evo race car, which represents advanced electric racing technology. This car accelerates from 0-60mph in just 1.82 seconds, making it the quickest accelerating FIA single-seater race car. The GEN3 Evo reaches a top speed of 200mph.

Power and Performance

The GEN3 Evo delivers 350 kW of power during qualifying and Attack Mode, equivalent to 469 horsepower. During race mode, the power output is 300 kW. All-wheel drive activates during qualifying duels, race starts, and Attack Mode, maximizing acceleration and control. The car features a 47 kWh liquid-cooled battery with 38.5 kWh usable capacity during races.

Regenerative Systems

The car optimizes 600kW regenerative braking capacity. This system generates nearly 50% of the energy needed during the race itself. The electric motor operates at over 95% efficiency. Hankook iON tires provide 5-10% more grip than previous versions and are manufactured from 35% recycled and sustainable materials.

Sustainability Focus

The GEN3 Evo is the first net zero carbon race car in the first net zero carbon sport. The batteries are developed using ethical and sustainable practices. This commitment to sustainability sets Formula E apart in motorsport.

The 2025-26 season features a competitive grid of teams and drivers. Major teams include Jaguar TCS Racing, Porsche Formula E Team, Envision Racing, Nissan Formula E Team, Andretti Formula E, DS Penske, Mahindra Racing, Citroën Racing, Lola Yamaha Abt Formula E Team, and Cupra Kiro.

Night Racing Experience

The Jeddah E-Prix stands as one of the only night races on the Formula E calendar. The circuit is fully illuminated, creating a spectacular visual backdrop against the Red Sea. This setting provides a unique atmosphere for both competitors and spectators.

The event offers fans an interactive experience beyond the on-track racing. Attendees can enjoy racing simulations, interactive games, diverse food and beverage options, and international entertainment. The atmosphere combines motorsport action with broader entertainment programming.

Formula E in Jeddah

Formula E moved to the Jeddah Corniche Circuit after previously racing at Diriyah. The Jeddah venue provides a different challenge with its high-speed street circuit characteristics. The circuit is recognized as one of the fastest and longest street circuits in motorsport.

The double-header format at Jeddah allows teams and drivers two opportunities to compete on the same circuit across consecutive days. This format tests adaptability as teams refine their setups and strategies between races. The viewership for Formula E racing in Jeddah has grown significantly, with the event attracting a global audience.

The combination of advanced electric racing technology, competitive driver lineups, and the unique night racing format makes the Jeddah E-Prix a significant event in the Formula E championship. The circuit layout challenges drivers while providing multiple overtaking opportunities and strategic elements that keep races unpredictable until the final lap.
