About Acerbis French Round

The Acerbis French Round brings WorldSBK action to the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours in France for the 2026 season. This race weekend features the premier Superbike class alongside World Supersport, the new World Sportbike category, and the FIM Women's Circuit Racing World Championship. The French venue offers fans a technical and challenging track layout that has produced memorable racing since it first welcomed WorldSBK in 1991.

Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours Track Information

The Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours extends 4.411 kilometers through central France near the towns of Magny-Cours and Nevers. The track contains 17 corners that include 9 right-hand turns and 8 left-hand turns. A 250-meter start/finish straight leads into the first corner. The facility can accommodate 139,112 spectators across its viewing areas.

The circuit layout incorporates corners inspired by famous turns from international tracks. Riders navigate the Adelaide hairpin, Estoril corner, and chicanes modeled after Imola and Nürburgring. The modern configuration came into use in 2003 following a redesign of the original 1960 facility. The flat and technical nature of Magny-Cours creates multiple overtaking opportunities and strong braking zones that suit the WSBK racing format.

Race Weekend Format

The Acerbis French Round follows the standard WorldSBK structure across three days. Friday features three free practice sessions where teams work on machine setup and riders learn the track conditions. Saturday brings the Superpole qualifying session that determines the grid positions for Race 1. The first full-length feature race takes place on Saturday afternoon.

Sunday morning hosts the ten-lap Superpole Race, which awards points to the top ten finishers and sets the grid for Race 2. The weekend concludes with the second full-length feature race on Sunday afternoon. All three races contribute to the championship standings, with the Superpole Race offering a reduced points allocation compared to the two main races.

WorldSBK Participants and Teams

The 2026 WorldSBK grid features significant changes from previous seasons. Five-time MotoGP race winner Miguel Oliveira joins the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team for his Superbike debut. Mattia Rato arrives at the Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team as another series newcomer. Superbike Advocates Racing enters the championship with a Ducati machine piloted by Tommy Bridewell.

The typical WorldSBK grid consists of approximately 20-25 permanent riders representing various manufacturers and nationalities. These riders compete on production-derived motorcycles from brands that include Ducati, BMW, Yamaha, Kawasaki, and Honda. The support categories of World Supersport and the new World Sportbike class share the race weekend schedule, along with the FIM Women's Circuit Racing World Championship.

Technical Specifications

Superbike Class Regulations

WorldSBK motorcycles derive from production models. Manufacturers must produce 2,000 units for homologation before entering a new model into competition. The Superbike class uses 4-stroke engines with specific displacement limits. Three-cylinder and four-cylinder engines range from over 750cc up to 1000cc. Two-cylinder engines range from over 850cc up to 1200cc. The displacement capacity must remain as homologated.

Each motorcycle must weigh a minimum of 168 kilograms including fluids. A rider-weight compensation system applies to competitors below the reference weight of 80 kilograms. These riders must add 50% of the weight difference to their machine. The maximum fuel tank capacity stands at 21 liters. Teams receive an allocation of 24 Pirelli tires per race weekend, as Pirelli serves as the sole tire supplier. Each team can use a maximum of seven engines per season.

World Sportbike Category

The new World Sportbike category debuts in 2026 with technical regulations approved by the SBK Commission. The class targets a maximum performance output of 90 horsepower. Homologated bikes include the Triumph Daytona 660, while the Kove 450 RR machine awaits homologation approval. This new category expands the racing program at each WSBK event including the French Round.

Historical Significance of Magny-Cours

Magny-Cours has hosted WorldSBK events since 1991 and has appeared on the calendar annually since 2003. The venue has witnessed several championship-deciding moments throughout its history. James Toseland became the youngest-ever WorldSBK Champion at this circuit in 2004. Jonathan Rea secured three consecutive World Championships at Magny-Cours in 2017, 2018, and 2019, becoming the first rider to achieve five WorldSBK titles at this location.

Ana Carrasco made history at the French circuit in 2018 by becoming the first-ever female FIM Solo Road Racing World Champion when she won the WorldSSP300 title. The track also hosted the Formula One French Grand Prix from 1991 to 2008. While the flat layout sometimes produced processional F1 races, the circuit configuration suits WorldSBK competition with its numerous overtaking zones and heavy braking areas.

What Makes This Event Special

The Acerbis French Round at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours combines a rich racing heritage with a technical track layout that challenges riders and teams. The 2026 edition features a refreshed grid with notable rider movements and the addition of the new World Sportbike class. The French venue provides a proper test of both rider skill and machine setup across its 17 corners.

Fans can follow three races across the weekend, with each offering championship points and competitive action. The production-based nature of WorldSBK machinery creates close racing between multiple manufacturers. The Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours has proven itself as a venue where championships can be decided and racing history can be written. The 2026 Acerbis French Round promises to deliver another chapter in the long relationship between WorldSBK and this French circuit.
