About WorldSBK

Created in 1988, the Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) is a premier racing series featuring modified production motorcycles. Unlike MotoGP's purpose-built machines, WorldSBK uses enhanced versions of road-legal motorcycles, making it comparable to sports car racing.

Racing Structure

The championship consists of triple-header race weekends featuring two full-length races and a shorter Superpole sprint race. This format determines three world titles annually: Riders', Manufacturers', and Teams' Championships. Races take place on permanent circuits worldwide, though primarily in Europe.

Technical Regulations

WorldSBK motorcycles must be based on production models available to the public. Major manufacturers currently competing include BMW, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, and Yamaha. While modifications are allowed, the bikes must maintain their production-based nature according to strict technical regulations.

Historical Significance

The championship has featured legendary riders like Carl Fogarty (4 titles), Troy Bayliss (3 titles), and Jonathan Rea (6 consecutive titles). It has served as both a destination for former MotoGP riders and a stepping stone to MotoGP careers, creating a dynamic competitive environment.

Supporting Series

The championship includes supporting categories like the Supersport World Championship, providing a complete racing ladder. These support series help develop young talent and offer additional racing entertainment during event weekends.

Global Impact

While centered in Europe, WorldSBK has expanded globally with races in multiple continents. The series has helped advance motorcycle development and maintains strong manufacturer involvement, making it a significant force in motorcycle racing.
