WorldSBK Calendar

The Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) is a global racing series for heavily modified production motorcycles. Established in 1988 and governed by the FIM, the championship is organized by the MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group. Unlike MotoGP's prototype machines, WorldSBK uses motorcycles based on models available to the public, creating a direct connection between race bikes and road bikes. Manufacturers must produce at least 2,000 units of a model for it to be eligible for homologation.

Race Format and Weekend Structure

Each WorldSBK weekend features three races that contribute to the Riders', Manufacturers', and Teams' Championships. Race 1 and Race 2 are full-length events lasting approximately 40 minutes over 90 to 110 km, with points awarded to the top 15 finishers (25 points for the winner down to 1 point for 15th). The Tissot Superpole Race is a ten-lap sprint held on Sunday morning that awards points to the top ten riders and determines the Race 2 grid.

The 2026 season introduced a refined weekend structure for improved clarity. Friday features three practice sessions. Saturday includes the Superpole qualifying session, which sets the Race 1 grid, followed by Race 1 in the afternoon. Sunday begins with the Tissot Superpole Race before concluding with Race 2. WorldSBK races consistently close both Saturday and Sunday's track action.

2026 Season Context

The 2026 season has seen significant rider movements. Reigning 2025 World Champion Toprak Razgatlıoğlu moved to MotoGP, while six-time champion Jonathan Rea retired. Nicolò Bulega leads the current championship standings, continuing with Aruba.it Racing - Ducati alongside new teammate Iker Lecuona. The ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team features Danilo Petrucci and five-time MotoGP race winner Miguel Oliveira. Three-time champion Alvaro Bautista joined Barni Spark Racing Team, while Honda HRC fields an entirely new line-up with Jake Dixon and Somkiat Chantra making their WorldSBK debuts.

Technical Regulations

WorldSBK motorcycles maintain their production origins while incorporating racing modifications. Teams are limited to seven engines per season, with Pirelli serving as the sole tire supplier providing 24 tires per weekend. The minimum motorcycle weight is 168 kg, with riders below 80 kg required to add 50% of the weight difference to their machine. Fuel tank capacity is capped at 21 liters, and manufacturers are limited to two FIM Category 1 certified fuels per season. Current competing manufacturers include BMW, Ducati, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, and others.

Supporting Championships

WorldSBK weekends include several support series. The Supersport World Championship (WorldSSP) remains a long-standing companion class. The FIM Women's Circuit Racing World Championship (WorldWCR) enters its third season in 2026 with a six-round calendar. A significant addition for 2026 is the FIM Sportbike World Championship (WorldSPB), a new entry-level class replacing World Supersport 300. WorldSPB features a performance balancing system and accepts riders aged 16 to 25 (or 28 for experienced riders), with eligible motorcycles including the Yamaha R7, Aprilia RS 660, and Triumph Daytona 660.

Calendar and Events

The 2026 championship comprises approximately 12 rounds across multiple continents. The season traditionally opens at Phillip Island in Australia before the European season begins in Portugal. Key events include the Aragon Round at Motorland Aragón in May, the Pirelli Emilia Romagna Round at Misano World Circuit in June, the Prosecco DOC UK Round at Donington Park in July, and the Acerbis French Round at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours in September. The series visits historic circuits including Assen, Portimão, Estoril, and Jerez throughout the season, maintaining its status as a genuinely global championship while retaining a strong European foundation.
