About Algarve
The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão, Portugal, hosts the 2026 World Superbike Championship. The Pirelli Portuguese Round brings together the best riders in WorldSBK, WorldSSP, and the new WorldSPB categories. Fans will experience world-class motorcycle racing at one of Europe's most challenging circuits. The Algarve Motor Park offers paddock access, pit walks, and fan activities throughout the race weekend.
Circuit Information
The Algarve Motor Park features a 4.592 km track with 15 turns. The circuit opened in 2008 and quickly became a favorite among riders and teams. The track has a 24-meter elevation change between its highest and lowest points. This creates a roller coaster effect that tests rider skill and machine performance.
The layout combines fast straights with technical corners. Riders face blind crests, off-camber turns, and steep climbs. The natural topography of the Algarve region shapes the circuit design. These features provide multiple overtaking zones and close racing action.

Technical Regulations
WorldSBK Rules
The 2026 regulations introduce fuel flow meter data carryover. Teams can use a maximum of two FIM Category 1 certified fuels per manufacturer for the season. Performance-based penalties or concessions may apply based on results.
WorldSPB Regulations
The WorldSPB class requires riders to be at least 16 years old. New contracted riders must be 25 or younger. Experienced riders from WorldSSP300 or WorldWCR can compete until age 28. The grid allows up to 34 participants, including one wildcard.
Technical rules include a performance balancing system. This uses engine concession parts, torque-limited maps with rev limits, and minimum weight requirements. The goal is parity among manufacturers. Eligible bikes produce approximately 90 horsepower and include the Aprilia RS660, Suzuki GSX-8R, Kove 450RR, Yamaha YZF-R7, Kawasaki ZX-6R, Triumph Daytona 660, and Honda CBR600RR.
Race Format
The 2026 season introduces a new format change. WorldSBK races will run as the final event each day. This provides a climactic finish for spectators. The weekend schedule includes multiple sessions across all three championships.
Circuit History
The Algarve International Circuit opened in October 2008. Construction took just seven months at a cost of approximately €195 million. The circuit hosted its first World Superbike Championship round in November 2008. Since then, it has been a regular fixture on the WSBK calendar.
The facility has hosted MotoGP, European Le Mans Series, FIA GT, and Formula 1. The Portuguese Grand Prix took place here in 2020 and 2021. This establishes the venue as a premier motorsport destination in Europe.
Facility Features
The Algarve Motor Park is part of a larger motorsport complex. The site includes a karting track, off-road track, and technology park. A five-star hotel and sports complex complete the venue. These facilities serve teams, sponsors, and fans throughout race weekends.
What Makes This Event Special
The Algarve wsbk race tests riders across varied corners and elevation changes. The track layout creates multiple racing lines through each section. This allows for different strategies and close battles on track. The Portuguese location offers favorable weather conditions for early-season racing.
The circuit's design draws inspiration from classic European tracks like Nürburgring and Spa-Francorchamps. Engineers used the natural landscape to create a challenging course. Riders must balance speed with precision through constantly changing gradients. This makes the Algarve Motor Park a true test of rider ability and machine setup.
