About Misano

The Pirelli Emilia Romagna Round brings World Superbike racing to the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in 2026. This event features multiple racing categories including WorldSBK, World Supersport, the new World Sportbike class, and the World Women's Circuit Racing championship. The Misano circuit, located near Misano Adriatico in the Province of Rimini within Italy's famous Motor Valley, offers fans a comprehensive weekend of motorcycle racing action.

The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli

The circuit measures 4.226 kilometers in length and features 16 corners, with 10 right-handers and 6 left-handers. The longest straight extends 530 meters. The track runs clockwise following extensive modifications completed in 2006 that changed its direction from the original counter-clockwise layout. These changes improved safety standards and brought the circuit up to modern racing requirements.

The facility can accommodate between 60,000 and 100,000 spectators. Modern amenities include regularly resurfaced smooth tarmac, a 70,000-square-meter paddock area, a state-of-the-art medical center, and photovoltaic systems that reduce environmental impact. The track combines high-speed straights with technical corners and subtle elevation changes. Notable corners include Curvone, Quercia, Tramonto, and Carro. The Curva del Carro takes its name from the region's agricultural heritage. The circuit's coastal location near the Adriatic Sea can create challenging wind conditions for riders.

2026 WorldSBK Participants

The 2026 season features 22 permanent riders from 14 teams and 8 nationalities. A total of 13 manufacturers compete across the three main classes. The grid includes several notable team and rider combinations.

ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team fields Danilo Petrucci and Miguel Oliveira. Aruba.it Racing – Ducati runs Nicolo Bulega and Iker Lecuona. Barni Spark Racing Team brings Alvaro Bautista and Yari Montella to the Ducati lineup. Elf Marc VDS Racing Team fields Sam Lowes, while MGM Racing runs Tarran Mackenzie. Motocorsa Racing features Alberto Surra, and Team GoEleven enters Lorenzo Baldassarri.

Bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team pairs Alex Lowes with Axel Bassani. Kawasaki WorldSBK Team fields Garrett Gerloff. Pata Maxus Yamaha runs Andrea Locatelli and Xavi Vierge. GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team includes Remy Gardner and Stefano Manzi. Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team features Bahattin Sofuoglu and Mattia Rato. Honda HRC enters Jake Dixon and Somkiat Chantra.

The season marks significant changes including Toprak Razgatlıoğlu's move to MotoGP and six-time WorldSBK champion Jonathan Rea's transition from full-time racing to a Honda test rider role.

Technical Regulations for 2026

The 2026 championship operates under updated technical regulations that provide more flexibility in motorcycle preparation. Manufacturers and teams have additional opportunities to modify engines, chassis, and electronics. Development focuses on aerodynamic performance improvements, optimized electronic engine management systems, and advanced composite materials that reduce weight. These modifications contribute to increased straight-line speed and improved handling characteristics.

Performance and Safety Standards

A fuel flow limitation system regulates engine performance. The specific limit for 2026 will be determined after analysis of early-season data. Rules govern carrying over fuel flow meter reductions or concessions between seasons. New safety standards include advanced emergency braking systems, improved racing suits with biometric sensors, and more sophisticated track barriers that reduce injury risks. A logistical measure reduces the number of tires used during race events.

World Sportbike Class

The new World Sportbike class replaces WorldSSP300 as an entry-level category. The class features bikes like the Yamaha R7 and Aprilia RS 660, targeting approximately 90 horsepower. A performance balancing system manages competition through engine concession parts, torque-limited maps, rev limits, and minimum weight requirements. Riders must be at least 16 years old. New contracted riders have a maximum age of 25, while experienced riders from WorldSSP300 or WorldWCR can be up to 28 years old. The maximum grid size is 34 participants, including one wildcard entry.

WorldSBK History at Misano

The Misano World Circuit hosted its first WorldSBK event in 1991 and has held more than 50 individual WorldSBK races. The circuit has witnessed numerous significant moments in championship history. Doug Polen delivered a dominant performance in 1991, achieving the highest average race speed recorded at the track before its modifications. Mauro Lucchiari scored his only two career wins at Misano in 1995. John Kocinski claimed a double victory from pole position in 1996.

Carl Fogarty secured his only two Misano victories and his 100th podium finish in 1999, the year he won his fourth and final championship title. The circuit hosted the 300th WorldSBK race in 2000. Troy Corser holds the record for the most podium finishes at a single circuit, with 16 at Misano. Jonathan Rea earned his first WorldSBK race win at this circuit in 2009. The circuit has undergone several significant changes since its inauguration in 1972, including increases to its length and track width.

Circuit Legacy and Character

The circuit received its current name, Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, in 2011-2012. The name honors Marco Simoncelli, the Italian MotoGP rider from the nearby town of Coriano. The facility sits within Italy's Motor Valley, surrounded by museums, clubs, and events dedicated to motorsports. The circuit operates for nearly 300 days per year, hosting various events beyond WorldSBK and MotoGP, including flat track, karting, and safe driving courses. In 2005, a new access point to the circuit was named Via Daijiro Kato, honoring the late Japanese rider.

The 2026 Misano wsbk round promises competitive racing across multiple categories, featuring a strong international field of riders and teams. The circuit's technical layout and modern facilities create conditions that test both rider skill and machine performance.
