About Motul Hungarian Round
The Motul Hungarian Round brings WorldSBK racing to Hungary at the Balaton Park Circuit for the second time in the championship's history. This race weekend features the premier FIM Superbike World Championship alongside the World Supersport Championship and the FIM Women's Circuit Racing World Championship. The 2026 edition takes place in May and represents a key moment in the season as Nicolo Bulega chases WorldSBK history.
The Circuit
Balaton Park Circuit stretches 4.075 kilometers through the Hungarian landscape. The track layout includes 17 corners in its motorcycle configuration, with 10 left-hand turns and 7 right-hand corners. Riders start from a left-hand pole position. The circuit joined the WorldSBK calendar in 2025, making the 2026 Motul Hungarian Round only its second appearance in the championship.
Race Format
The Motul Hungarian Round follows the standard three-day WorldSBK format. Friday sessions allow riders to learn the track and develop their setup. Saturday brings the Tissot Superpole qualifying session, which determines the starting grid, followed by Race 1. Sunday features the shorter Superpole Race in the morning and Race 2 in the afternoon. WorldSBK races close out each day's action.
Support categories share the weekend schedule. World Supersport (WorldSSP) and the FIM Women's Circuit Racing World Championship (WorldWCR) compete alongside the premier class. The newly introduced World Sportsbike Championship (WorldSPB) replaces the previous World Supersport 300 Championship, though it runs a different calendar schedule.
Championship Battle
Nicolo Bulega from Aruba.it Racing – Ducati leads the 2026 WorldSBK championship standings with 186 points after winning all nine races contested so far this season. His winning streak extends to 13 consecutive victories dating back to 2025. A victory in Race 1 at Balaton Park would secure him the outright record for consecutive WorldSBK race wins.
Iker Lecuona, Bulega's teammate at Aruba.it Racing – Ducati, holds second position in the championship. Sam Lowes rides for ELF Marc VDS Racing Team, while Miguel Oliveira represents ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team. Alex Lowes competes for bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team. Yuki Kunii will substitute for the injured Jake Dixon at Honda HRC during this Hungarian race weekend.
Technical Regulations
WorldSBK features production-based motorcycles derived from models that consumers can purchase. Manufacturers heavily modify these machines for racing while adhering to regulations that control engine specifications, minimum weight requirements, and electronic systems. These rules maintain competitive balance between different manufacturers and preserve the connection to road-going superbikes.
Viewing and Attendance
Fans can purchase tickets through the official WorldSBK ticket platform. Single-day tickets typically start at €191, while two-day packages begin at €293. Organizers issue digital tickets and send confirmation details via email before the event. Special Pit Lane Walk tickets are available but require both a Paddock Ticket and a valid admission ticket for the corresponding day. Live television coverage airs on TNT Sports and HBO Max, while the WorldSBK VideoPass offers streaming options.
What Makes This Event Special
The 2026 Motul Hungarian Round carries special significance as only the second WorldSBK visit to Balaton Park Circuit. The track remains relatively new to riders and teams, creating unpredictable racing as everyone continues to understand its unique characteristics. The circuit's blend of corner types tests both rider skill and machine performance across varied racing situations.
Bulega's pursuit of the consecutive wins record adds a compelling storyline to the Hungary race weekend. WorldSBK maintains its position as the earliest-starting FIM road racing championship each year, typically beginning in February. The championship showcases production-based motorcycle racing at its highest level, connecting the machines on track to the bikes fans can experience on roads around Hungary and beyond.
The shift in the calendar date compared to the previous year demonstrates how WorldSBK optimizes its schedule across multiple countries and continents. Race fans in Hungary and throughout Europe have the opportunity to witness world-class superbike racing as the championship visits this distinctive circuit.
