About Round 6

Round 6 of the GT World Challenge Europe takes place at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours in central France. This Sprint Cup event brings together GT3 racing cars from the world's leading manufacturers for two one-hour races. The 2026 edition continues the series tradition of competitive racing on one of France's premier racing circuits.

Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours

Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours sits in central France, near the towns of Magny-Cours and Nevers. The circuit is located approximately 250 kilometers from Paris and 240 kilometers from Lyon. The track holds FIA Grade 1 status, placing it among the highest-rated racing facilities worldwide.

The current Grand Prix Circuit measures 4.411 kilometers in length and features 17 corners. The track runs in a clockwise direction and offers a very smooth surface. The layout combines slow, tight turns with fast, winding sections that test both driver skill and car setup.

Notable Track Features

Many corners at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours carry names borrowed from famous turns at other international racetracks. The fast Estoril corner challenges drivers with high-speed commitment. The Adelaide hairpin, a slow corner at the end of a long straight, provides a prime overtaking opportunity. Chicanes named after the Nürburgring and Imola circuits add technical complexity to the lap. The track remains mostly flat with minor elevation changes throughout.

Sprint Cup Race Format

The GT World Challenge Europe divides into two competitions: the Endurance Cup and the Sprint Cup. Round 6 at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours forms part of the Sprint Cup calendar. Each Sprint Cup weekend includes two one-hour races. Points from both races count toward the overall GT World Challenge Europe championship standings.

Four distinct classes compete within the championship: Pro, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. These categories organize drivers based on their FIA driver ratings. The Pro class features elite professional drivers. Gold class includes professionals with fewer achievements. Silver class welcomes young prospects and semi-professional drivers. Bronze class provides opportunities for amateur racers. Points from Sprint Cup and Endurance Cup rounds combine to determine overall drivers' and teams' championships.

Participants and Cars

The GT World Challenge Europe attracts a large field of competitors. The 2026 Sprint Cup expects a record-breaking entry of 45 cars. All participating vehicles conform to FIA GT3 regulations. These grand touring racing cars derive from production road cars, with manufacturers required to produce at least 300 road cars annually before developing a racing version.

Manufacturers represented in the 2026 season include Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Ferrari, Ford, Lamborghini, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG, and Porsche. Each manufacturer brings unique engineering approaches to the competition.

GT3 Technical Specifications

GT3 cars feature diverse engine configurations. Turbocharged V6 engines, naturally aspirated V8s, V10s, and V12s all compete in the same field. Power output typically ranges from 500 to 600 horsepower. Pirelli serves as the exclusive official tire supplier for the GT World Challenge Europe.

The SRO Motorsports Group, working with the FIA, employs a Balance of Performance system. This system ensures fair competition between different manufacturers and car models. Officials test cars on dynamometers, in wind tunnels, and on track to assess performance. They make adjustments through weight changes, engine power modifications via turbo boost or air restrictors, and aerodynamic efficiency alterations through ride-height settings.

Circuit History

Jean Bernigaud built Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours in 1960. The circuit gained early recognition for hosting the prestigious Winfield racing school, which trained notable drivers including François Cevert and Jacques Laffite. After falling into disrepair during the 1980s, the Conseil Départemental de la Nièvre purchased and redeveloped the facility in 1986.

From 1991 to 2008, Magny-Cours hosted the Formula One French Grand Prix. Michael Schumacher achieved eight wins at this circuit, becoming the first driver to win a single Formula One Grand Prix eight times at the same location in 2006. The circuit underwent a significant redesign in 2003, including changes to the final corner and a chicane to enhance overtaking opportunities.

Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours has also hosted the Superbike World Championship, World Sportscar Championship, and World Touring Car Championship. The facility houses a campus of the French engineering college Institut supérieur de l'automobile et des transports and the Conservatoire de la monoplace française museum.

Series Background

The SRO Motorsports Group organizes the GT World Challenge Europe. The series began in 2011 as the Blancpain Endurance Series. It expanded to include a Sprint Series in 2014, creating the Endurance and Sprint Cups. The championship now forms part of a global GT World Challenge platform alongside similar series in Asia, America, and Australia.

The CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa stands as the flagship event of the Endurance Cup. The series consistently features strong grids and is considered a leading championship for GT3 cars worldwide. The competitive nature of the series produces close racing and diverse winners throughout each season.

What Makes This Event Special

Round 6 at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours offers high-level GT3 racing at a facility steeped in motorsport history. The combination of the circuit's challenging layout and the competitive Sprint Cup field creates compelling racing. The smooth track surface and excellent facilities provide ideal conditions for teams and drivers to perform at their best.

The unique corner names at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours reflect the track's connection to international motorsport. Drivers navigate sections that pay homage to famous corners from circuits around the globe. The mix of high-speed and technical sections rewards both bravery and precision.

The 2026 Sprint Cup grid represents the pinnacle of GT3 competition. Multiple manufacturers and driver combinations across four classes ensure varied strategies and racing styles. This diversity creates opportunities for different teams to excel based on their strengths and the specific demands of Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours.
